First Lutheran Women
Through Bible study, mission projects, visitation and fundraising, First Lutheran Women (FLW) are “sharing God’s grace.”
The purpose statement of the Women of the ELCA is:
As a community of women
created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world. |
Global
Our current mission project is School Kits. Items for the kits are gathered and then assembled for shipment to Lutheran World Relief. This also includes providing youth camperships, providing scholarships for girls in countries where education for females is not valued and purchasing materials and tied blankets to camps for kids who have experienced trauma. Through our fundraising, we are able to "Buy a Farm" through ELCA Good Gifts. "Buy a Farm" includes livestock, seeds, tools, and farming education. |
Community
We make donations to various organizations such as Servants of Shelter, gas cards for cancer patients, Friends Against Abuse, Salvation Christmas food baskets and hats/mittens to kids in need at Falls Elementary. |
Supplies and Financial Support: First Lutheran Women are able to provide worship and fellowship supplies. We provided financial support for Parrish Nursing and building upgrades.
Fundraising Events: Two fundraising events which include crafts & baked goods in July and December. Income from these events helps fund donations to First Lutheran Church, locally & globally. Quarterly meetings for Fellowship and idea sharing with the other WELC groups in the county.
Funerals: FLW provides food and serves for funerals held at First Lutheran. The funeral committee contacts the calling groups who then call members for food and helping hands.
